MAPLE
Acer is a genus of trees commonly known as Maple. Most of these sharp leaved trees are native to Asia, Europe, northern Africa and North America. Sugar Maple wood, often known as 'hard maple', is eg. the wood of choice for bowling pins, bowling alley lanes, pool cue shafts and butchers blocks.
SYP
Southern Yellow Pine describes a group of treespecies which are classified as yellow pine, and native to the southeastern United States.
There are several varieties such as longleaf-, shortleaf, loblolly- and slash pine.
These are all considered important timber trees, and are easily recognized by their very long needles and deeply ridged bark.
SCOTS PINE
The Scots Pine, Pinus Sylvestris, is a pine species native to Europe and Asia, ranging from Ireland in the west, east to eastern Siberia, south to the Caucasus Mountains, and as far north as well inside the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia. In then the north of its range, it occurs from sea level to 1000 m, while in the south of its range, it is high altitude mountain tree, growing at 1200-2600 m altitude.
RADIATA
Radiata also known as Radiata Pine is a species of pine native to the Central Coast of California.
The needles are bright green, in clusters of three, long and with a blunt tip. The bark is fissured and dark grey to brown.
Radiata is used in house construction as weatherboards, posts, beams or plywood, in fencing, retaining walls.
